Des Moines, Iowa -- About five years ago, new lofts and condos started popping up all over downtown Des Moines, but then the housing market fell into a slump. Now construction is under way again in downtown.....The Sherman Associates $20 million project is called The Metro Lofts and will have 111 units at 101 Second Ave., not far from the Science Center. The company is also remodeling the Rumely Building, adding another 66 units at 104 Southwest Fourth St. The historic renovation will keep the old vaults, heavy timbers, 14-foot high ceilings and exposed brick with views through huge windows.
