George Sherman inducted into the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame

George Sherman, CEO of Sherman Associates, was inducted into the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame. The Shenehon Center for Real Estate at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business established the Minnesota Real Estate Hall of Fame to honor, preserve and perpetuate the names and outstanding accomplishments of real estate leaders who have made a significant contribution in real estate and demonstrated care and concern for improving their communities as business leaders. George Sherman and three other industry leaders were honored with an induction ceremony on November 9th, 2022. George Sherman founded Sherman Associates in 1979 and has planned and delivered multi- and single-family housing for more than 43 years. As principal in developing more than 10,000 rental units and more than 1,400 for-sale housing units, the total value of his development portfolio exceeds $4 billion. George is recognized as an industry veteran favored by cities and development partners for his ability to commit to a vision for development and deliver the expected results.

Kilimanjaro and complete a marathon are the same attributes that George Sherman uses to manage the $2+ billion portfolio of Sherman Associates, which includes over 6,800 multifamily units, five hotels, and over 640,000 SF of commercial space throughout Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, Missouri, and Florida. As founder and CEO, Sherman leads over 650 employees in their mission to build communities, enrich neighborhoods and empower people. In addition to tackling huge projects such as the $132 million renovation of 1,303 apartments at Riverside Plaza, Sherman supports services that continue to serve the residents such as the West Bank Safety Center, Fairview Health Services Clinic, Adult Education and Career Center, Daycare and an office for the Riverside Plaza Tenant Association. The Mill District Neighborhood in Downtown Minneapolis grew out of Sherman’s initiative in developing riverside land and making the development leap over Washington Ave. The Mill District now includes the Aloft hotel, Zenith condominiums; Encore luxury apartments; East End apartments; Canopy by Hilton; Trader Joes; Starbucks; The Vicinity apartments and townhomes; and a new fire station, planned 22-story and six-story apartment buildings, and 6,000 SF retail along Washington Ave between 5th and Portland. The historic J.I. Case building is under renovation and will deliver 63,000 SF of restaurant, retail, office, and rooftop patio. Sherman chairs the Board of the Community Housing Development Corporation and serves as a board member of the Minnesota Housing Partnership and the founding member of the Cedar-Riverside Partnership – emblematic of his commitment to making housing more accessible and building strong community bonds.
