Sherman Associates recently added Paula Beck to its legal team where she will serve as Associate General Counsel providing legal direction to Sherman’s development, accounting and asset management divisions throughout the development process. Beck’s focus will include in determining structure and financing of complex developments utilizing Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).
Beck has worked in the multifamily housing industry since 1997. Because of her wealth of legal experience in both development and financing, she is widely recognized for her expertise and leadership in the use of tax credits, bond financing, and state and federal grant and loan programs. This knowledge gives Sherman’s team the ability to identify strategies and solutions that result in community-enriching opportunities.
Prior to rejoining Sherman in 2015, Beck served as General Counsel for the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. She also served as a Minnesota Assistant Attorney General in the public finance division for nearly five years and practiced real estate law at Leonard, Street and Deinard (now Stinson Leonard Street) in Minneapolis. Beck is held in high esteem by colleagues in the housing development community nationwide. She authored “Fighting Section 8 Discrimination: The Fair Housing Act’s New Frontier”, for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review.
Beck holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swarthmore College and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School.
