Sherman Associates plans a private celebration of the opening of the Rayette Lofts, a former Lowertown parking ramp that has been converted into an upscale apartment complex overlooking CHS Field, the city’s future ballpark.
The development company is hosting an invite-only gathering on Oct. 30 at 261 E. Fifth St. Attendance is limited due to rooftop capacity, but the company is also scheduling private tours through its website.
The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota partnered with Sherman Associates to help the developer access state and federal historic tax credits and complete a historically-sensitive renovation. The seven-story building, which recently opened for occupancy, includes 88 apartments and heated parking.
The Rayette first opened in 1911 and housed the Strong and Warner Company, a hat and clothing wholesaler, but has been used for years for parking. Space has been set aside on the ground level for a future restaurant.
“We’re super pumped,” said Will O’Keefe, real estate program coordinator for the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota. “Taking a building that had been used as a parking garage and putting housing in it, it’s another notch on the belt for Lowertown.”
